England to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The English squad will initiate their Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they attain the expected passage for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions fixture since May 2016, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to welcome the England side for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, if they top their group, their last-16 tie would occur at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Launch and Protest

The event was unveiled at an gathering in central London on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the site by about 50 protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be removed from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were displayed with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will include the Welsh team if they make it.

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a start time at 5pm.

It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from next season, will attract families and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Host Nations

The Irish team are set to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will enter the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for the finals through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Elimination Phase

Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches staged at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“This will be a competition for the fans and a showcase of everything we value about the sport – its emotion and capacity to unite individuals.”

More than three million passes, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be released to fans.
