Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors report that a former physician now faces charges for committing sexual assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.
The Grave Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Investigation
The charges come after what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

The charging documents outline the 45 sexual offences he is charged with:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
