Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with results this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
