Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS.

Down 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third in history trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I want up in that situation other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.

Toronto won the title on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
